Waratah Village is the main shopping centre on Turton Road. There is bus transport to Marketown Newcastle West, and there are small shops dotted around the suburb. Major shopping centres are a short drive away.


There are cafes in the shopping village and nearby Mayfield. The Beaumont St café strip in Hamilton is close by.

School Catchment Zones

Waratah is serviced by Waratah Public School and Corpus Christi Primary School. Secondary school options are the Callaghan College Technology Campus which is in the suburb, or the Jesmond Campus. There is also St Philip’s Christian College for K-12. The Newcastle School in Waratah provides education for students with significant disabilities.


Waratah is very close to McDonald Jones Stadium, the Entertainment Centre and the Newcastle Showground – much of the suburb is within walking distance of these centres. Being an inner west suburb, Waratah is within easy reach of the beaches and harbour, and other dining strips.
